Our mother, Madar Joon’s last days were not an accurate depiction of how wide her footprint was and how well she was loved by so many. Anyone who loved her would travel to the ends of the Earth to say goodbye to her. Though we couldn’t all be there on that day, due to circumstances out of our control, this page is a dedication and remembrance of the people she impacted and touched with her life. It is filled with moments that were captured that give a glimpse into the full life she led and the people that loved her.
We will forever miss, the touch of her soft skin, her infectious laugh, her thin-lipped, warm smile, her love for donuts, her glass of warm milk each night before bed. Also, who can forget her daily journal entries or the shrill in her voice when she was surprised or shocked by something? Which grandchild didn’t curl up next to her at some point in their lifetime watching her write and ask her what she was going to include in that day’s journal entry?
She was joyful, giggled more than anyone most of us have ever known, and spent the last 30 years of her life traveling the entire globe to visit her children and grandchildren.
She taught us all so much in the way she led her life: To reflect on life is important. A little silliness is a good thing. Just because something is the way it is, doesn’t mean it’s the right thing. Don’t let life’s tragedies stifle the ability to live fully. Value and pour into the relationships you do have. She touched all of her children, children’s spouses and grandchildren in different ways with her character and love. We each reflect a different part of her in our lives and will continue to do so in her absence. She was a light and source of joy wherever she went. We all have stories, ones that warm our soul, make us laugh, or bring us gratitude. May we all live our lives in such a way that would honor who she was and the life she lived.
Maman was born in Iran and was the first child of five.
She loved everyone and everyone loved her. She had a contagious laugh and could always make anyone smile.
She is survived by her eight children, twenty-four grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren who all love her and miss her so much.
We miss you, Maman.
